At Meerfout Films, we do not treat market appeal and artistic integrity as competing priorities. We approach filmmaking as a discipline grounded in respect—toward our collaborators, our performers, and the communities whose stories we tell.
As a producer-led studio with end-to-end capabilities, we manage projects across their entire lifecycle: original development and screenwriting, financing and packaging, series direction, and full delivery to strict broadcaster specifications. Our experience spans high-rated broadcast drama, independent feature films, and compelling factual formats.
The Garden Route
Our commitment extends beyond producing our own slate. We are actively invested in building the Garden Route as a sustainable, world-class film destination.
By basing our studio in Hoekwil, we are establishing the infrastructure, creative networks, and local crew capacity needed to support a thriving regional screen economy. Our mission is twofold: to nurture local talent, crew, and service providers across the Garden Route, while laying the foundational framework to host, co-produce, and service high-end international productions.
We believe the Garden Route offers unmatched locations, rich narrative landscapes, and incredible resourcefulness. By combining deep local roots with international delivery standards, we are positioning the region as a primary destination for global storytelling.
The Team
Meerfout Films is a wholly South African-owned studio held by its founding directors, Janhendrik Burger and Berdene Burger.
Both Janhendrik and Berdene operate fluidly across story development, writing, directing, and producing. On any given project, each assumes a primary role while bringing the collective judgment of all four disciplines to the table.
The result is a culture where creative ambition and production reality are balanced in early development.
